That doesn't sound... fun. Welcome to adulthood, I guess? I've never had one myself. I'll be thinking about you (and I'm sure Shebang will enjoy having you laid up for a few days - silver lining?).

At least you finally know *why* you're in pain! Saturday is only 2 days away now!

I hope the root canal goes quickly, smoothly, and the dentist hands you a couple pain killers to make recovery easier!

I've never had a root canal, or a filling. I still have all my teeth in their entirety. Well okay, not the wisdom teeth, which all came out in a single procedure in 1990, for which I was mostly knocked out.

For anyone about to congratulate me for not encountering true pain, that's only on the dental side. Exactly a year ago I was recovering from massive intestinal surgery, and I've since had two blockages to deal with. I've had my share of morphine (enough to become a bit dependent on it at one point). As as I said before, that would probably help here for Gillian too.

With luck it will be essentially over after the weekend. Good luck!

Will: Root canals used to be incredibly painful. For whatever reason they're now somewhat like getting a filling done.

Wow, that's all crappy, but I'm glad they've got it sorted out! The best part about pain is when it is over...

Surprised you have to wait until Saturday. That doesn't seem very good, I would have assumed this would be treated as an emergency. Emergency! Saturday is not very emergency like.

The root canal shouldn't be too bad. I've heard horror stories but I've had two (one was a back one like yours, the first after I ran into a wall teeth first when I was 11 while playing tag in a pitch black gymnasium, but that's another story) and both were fine.

Oooh! And if you get your tooth fixed, you can come enjoy Cake Day next week with us hehe. Yay Cake!

Massive doses of ibuprofen. I am serious. Large doses. Enough to make you forget you have pain. Seriously, it works. Part of the reason you have so much pain is because there is inflammation pressing on the nerve ibuprofen will relieve the inflammation. If you got tylenol 3 pop or two with your ibuprofen. I got through the worst toothache of my life. I think I was taking 1200 mg of ibuprofen a couple of times a day. You are smaller so you may not need as much. Good luck!

PS don't expect a root canaled tooth to settle down immediately either. It is a different kind of discomfort ( I would not call it pain ) but you know the freakin tooth is there.
